This Kastrup Airport wall lamp is an exceptional example of Danish functionalist lighting. It was originally designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen for Kastrup Airport in Copenhagen in the mid-1930s and produced by Louis Poulsen. Lauritzen's lighting was intended as an integral part of the architectural space, prioritizing bright, comfortable lighting. This principle is clearly reflected in this robust, beautifully designed lamp.
The design consists of a wide, concave, painted metal reflector combined with a white opal glass diffuser, which provides soft, glare-free light suitable for both public and residential interiors. The generous dimensions and minimalist design are characteristic of early Danish modern lighting: timeless, functional, and refined.
This rare lamp, originating from an important chapter in Scandinavian design history, combines architectural heritage with everyday functionality, making it a striking addition to any design collection. It comes with a partially original installation manual (see photo).
The lamp offered is the medium-sized "Kastrup" lamp. Note the light signs of use on the metal reflector.
