Exceptional European Space Age swivel lounge chair from the 1960s, defined by its sculptural upholstered shell and distinctive aluminium tulip base. The organically shaped shell combines a high, rounded backrest with sweeping armrests, creating a striking silhouette characteristic of progressive European furniture design of the 1960s. A particularly unusual feature is its automatic self-return swivel mechanism. The chair rotates freely and automatically returns to its original position after use. The chair was reupholstered a few years ago in a new furniture fabric. Its textured, mottled grey weave complements the sculptural shape particularly well and creates a beautiful contrast with the aluminium pedestal. The fabric remains in very good condition, while the upholstery is firm and retains its shape. The aluminium base shows authentic age-related signs of use. Provenance: Private residence in a period apartment in Berlin-Charlottenburg, Germany. A virtually identical pair featuring matching dimensions and the same unusual automatic self-return mechanism is currently offered by a professional French antiques dealer for €2,600 per pair.
