A striking mid-century studio ceramic charger plate by the legendary French twin brothers, Jean and Robert Cloutier (c. 1960s).
This large 29 cm red earthenware plate features their iconic, vibrant fruit still life decor. The modern composition showcases apples, pears, and grapes rendered in rich, glossy enamel slip glazes with beautiful purple, pink, and warm earthy tones. The expressive brushwork combined with the exposed clay body perfectly captures the whimsical modernist aesthetic of the French post-war ceramic movement.
The Cloutier brothers trained under masters like Georges Jouve and Pol Chambost. This authentic, hand-signed piece is both highly collectible and a dramatic decorative statement for a wall display or table centerpiece.
- Origin: France
- Period: 1960s
- Dimensions: Diameter 29 cm | Height 3.5 cm
- Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The glaze is remarkably glossy and vibrant. No structural cracks or major chips. There is one tiny, negligible glaze fleabite on the rim edge (clearly visible in the final photo), which is very common for 1960s French earthenware and does not detract from its beauty. Hand-signed "Cloutier" on the reverse.
