1950s Swedish drop-leaf dining table by Skaraborgs with original label, adjustable single or double leaf opening.
1950s Swedish drop-leaf dining table, the traditional “slagbord” type, produced by Skaraborgs Möbelindustri of Tibro, a town renowned for its high-quality woodworking tradition. The original manufacturer’s label is present inside.
The “slagbord” originated in Scandinavian culture as a domestic worktable: a practical surface that could be folded down to save space in rural homes. During the 20th century, this model was reinterpreted through a modernist lens, preserving its functional essence and restrained form. The top can be opened fully or on one side only; each leaf measures 62 cm, reaching a total length of 168 cm when fully extended. Slender legs and clean lines express the balanced practicality typical of Nordic design of the period.
