Beautifully restored vintage bistro chair produced by TON in Czechoslovakia during the 1950s. The label is no longer attached. The chair features a solid oak frame with a molded plywood seat and a distinctive carved plywood backrest decorated with a folk-inspired motif.
During the 1950s, Czechoslovak furniture manufacturers experimented with incorporating traditional folk elements into modern factory production. Although this design direction was relatively short-lived, it resulted in a small number of distinctive and highly collectible pieces such as this one.
The chair has been professionally restored and refinished while preserving its authentic character. It remains in very good vintage condition, with only minor signs of age, including gentle warping of the plywood seat consistent with its age. These subtle traces of use enhance its originality and vintage appeal while not affecting its stability or functionality.
