We are first owners of a trio of works by Wim Vellekoop including this colorful Abstract Expressionist painting, framed in black. The works have been in our possession for 30 years. This work (acrylic on canvas) of 70 x 80 cm has a nice size, an eye-catcher. The Haarlem artist Wim Vellekoop (1936-2020) was trained at the Kunstnijverheidsschool in Amsterdam (the predecessor of the Rietveld Academy) by Prof. Charles Roelofs, among others. After this, he was a drawing teacher at the Bouman Academy in Amsterdam for more than 35 years. Wim established his name in the seventies with impressive material paintings that were exhibited inside and outside the Haarlem region. The many reviews of his work over the years contain a number of key words, descriptions that keep coming back: dynamic, movement, rhythm, swing, expressionist, powerful, tension and abstract. His work is certainly abstract, and Wim does not give his work titles. For he explains: the viewer can let his imagination run wild! A true abstract-expressionist, Wim calls himself, consciously basing himself on the ideas of the art historian Greenberg: abstract expressive imagery and emotionally charged paint treatment. Emotion in color as he himself describes his work. We have three works
