The unique works of Wim van Oss are now offered on his own behalf. This is the first part of his collection being offered.
Biographical text –
Wim van Oss was born in 1943 in Kerkdriel, near 's-Hertogenbosch. As the youngest of five children, his drawing talent revealed itself early. At the age of twelve, his drawing teacher at school in 's-Hertogenbosch discovered that Wim possessed exceptional artistic aptitude. The young Wim was soon drawn to a life in art, and received his first private lessons during that period.
Determined to further develop his talent, he later moved to the United States, where he completed a four-year program at the Artist School in Westport. He graduated there in the 1960s. During this training, he gained extensive experience in various techniques and in figure drawing. His work and his lessons have since been characterized by a wide variety of styles, forms, and techniques.
Wim's artistic talent is not isolated. Anyone delving into the family history of the "Van Ossen" will discover that he descends from a picturesque family that played an important role in the genesis of the Hague School, with names such as Schelfhout, Koekkoek, and Breitner.
Today, Wim van Oss's work is spread across the globe, particularly in Germany, Austria, Italy, Turkey, the United States, Poland, and Greece. His oeuvre is part of both prominent corporate collections and private collections, and the list of places where his work can be found continues to grow.
Over the years, Wim developed a completely unique style. His paintings consciously leave room for personal interpretation for the viewer, although it is clear that he wants to evoke emotions such as curiosity, jealousy, and resignation through his figures. His work seems to "breathe": anyone standing before it gets the feeling of being able to walk through the painting, guided by an invisible storyline subtly applied by the artist. The energy bursts from his canvases, and his progressive style enjoys international interest — something visible in the continuous development of his work.
Wim describes his expressionism as follows: "I want to express the inner, the experienced in the spirit. By detaching myself from nature in art, expressionism is often very difficult to understand. In this art direction, I want to express the essence of things and my vision as an artist, neglecting objective forms, but with much feeling."
