Rotterdam native Wim Motz (1900-1977) did not begin his career as an artist until the age of 37. Among other things, Motz took drawing lessons from Jan van Straten who taught him what fine art is. From there the trail led him from impressionism to expressionism and from pure abstraction back to recognizable reality. His works from the 1950s and 1960s are considered the best period. The artist found success as an artist fairly quickly and exhibited in America, Canada, Switzerland and Belgium, among others.
