In the 1960s, glossy white laminate established itself in Italian interiors as a modern, hygienic, and elegant material. Manufacturers then vied with each other in ingenuity to turn it into everyday objects that were both functional and decorative. This rectangular catch-all tray with generously rounded corners is a fine example of this. Its immaculate white surface features a finely printed botanical design: on the left, *Linum Grandiflorum*, red flax with scarlet petals and delicate buds on slender green stems. On the right, *Calotasia Cyanca*, an Australian plant with pale blue star-shaped flowers, standing tall like a botanical candelabrum. The Latin names are inscribed in italic cursive below each plant, following the tradition of 19th-century botanical plates. On the back, an embossed stamp confirms its origin: Mebel, Made in Italy, P 67. A meticulously crafted Italian production from the 1960s-1970s, in the great tradition of transalpine design.
