This is a characteristic saying plate by W.C. Brouwer, manufactured by Brouwers Aardewerk NV in Leiderdorp around 1910. The object illustrates the early twentieth-century Dutch ceramics tradition, in which artisanal techniques and decorative typography were combined to create a striking wall object.
The plate is made of ceramic and features a striking glaze that varies in shades of green, brown, and subtle purple. The central text, applied in relief, is framed by an iridescent rim with decorative dots. The use of materials and the finish are typical of the early production period of the factory in Leiderdorp.
