Before kitchens became filled with standardized storage units, some everyday objects still had enough personality to fully contribute to the home's decor. This wall-mounted salt pot belongs precisely to that era. Made of enameled ceramic in a warm ivory hue, it is entirely covered with a fine crazing that gives its surface the depth so characteristic of old enamels.
Its silhouette is immediately recognizable. A rectangular body with gently rounded corners, extended at the back by a tall wall plate pierced with two openings for its attachment. Its removable lid, also ceramic, is topped with a generous spherical knob.
But its charm lies above all in its decoration. On the cream background, freely drawn flowers unfold in a particularly pleasing palette of cobalt blue, sun yellow, raspberry pink, and green. Nothing is static in this composition. The flowers seem to have been applied spontaneously, almost like a few brushstrokes on a canvas. A chocolate brown border, deliberately irregular, highlights the opening, the lid, and the knob, giving the whole a very graphic character.
We are transported to the atmosphere of French kitchens of the 1950s-1960s, when the salt pot was still fixed to the wall, near the stove or the preparation table, always within reach. Today, it becomes a wonderful little testament to that post-war interior. Originally functional, it now possesses all the charm of a genuine vintage decorative object. Its enamel features a widespread crazing, particularly harmonious and perfectly visible in the photographs. The piece retains its original lid and wall mounting system. An object full of character, cheerful without being naive, which alone tells a small piece of French culinary history.
