Product description
There is something in biscuit porcelain that plaster cannot imitate. This matte, warm ivory surface, slightly grainy to the touch, which recalls both marble and ivory. This is why 19th-century French and Belgian manufacturers chose it for their quality devotional pieces. This crucifix is a perfect example of it. The cross, molded in unglazed biscuit porcelain, features slightly beveled arms and a sober and elegant V-groove decoration at the ends and intersection. The relief Christ is finely modeled, with precise academic musculature, a carefully draped perizonium, a crown of thorns, and a head slightly inclined to the right, in the classical iconography of French Catholic Neo-Baroque of the Third Republic. The nails, perizonium, and INRI cartouche are enhanced with fine gilding, partially worn with time. Twisted metal hanging ring on the back.
