Beautiful original radiance of Aachen – Elisenbrunnen / Elisengarten with a view of the Cathedral by Friedrich Kätner (1906 – after 1980) Black and white etching (radiance), mid-20th century (ca. 1950-1970) An atmospheric and detailed cityscape of the heart of Aachen: the classic Elisenbrunnen with its fountain and terrace chairs in the foreground, surrounded by trees, and in the background the imposing towers of Aachen Cathedral. This composition perfectly captures the historic charm and tranquility of the Elisengarten. Features: Handwritten title in pencil: "Aachen, Elisengarten" Additional annotation (possibly gallery): "O-Maler g. Kätner" (probably "Original Maler" as a guarantee of authenticity) Technique: Original etching on paper, black and white Provenance: Purchased from the renowned Kunsthandlung de Bernardi in Aachen (Adalbertstraße), a family gallery since 1890 specializing in regional graphics. Includes original label on the back. Condition: Excellent, with minor signs of age commensurate with its age. Beautifully framed in a classic wooden frame with gold accents. Friedrich Kätner was a German graphic artist and professor, known for his realistic and atmospheric etchings of German cities and landmarks. He created several works featuring this exact Aachen motif, as well as other icons such as the Rathaus (town hall) and the Dom (dome).
