Original oil painting by the Italian artist Vittorio Emanuele Serra (1950), titled Haseki.
The work depicts a so-called “Haseki”—the favorite wife or chief concubine of a sultan within the Ottoman court. Historically, this position was known for its influence and status, often being close to power and holding an important role within the palace. The theme therefore refers not only to beauty, but also to power, position, and intrigue.
Serra executed this portrait in a classical style, clearly inspired by 17th-century painting. The lighting, expression, and paint layering give the work depth and a timeless appeal. At the same time, it remains a contemporary work with its own signature.
The artist, trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, is known for his portraits and scenographic work for theaters and churches. His paintings are appreciated for their technical quality and classical approach.
