"Designed by Charles & Ray Eames in 1956, the popularity of the Vitra Eames Lounge Chair has made it a real design classic. Immediately after its creation, the Lounge Chair received the Triennale Prize in Milan. Eames' intention was to offer an alternative to the to create a classic English club chair. This seemed too clumsy and bulky to the designer - but Charles Eames did not want to do without the comfort that this chair offered. This is how the Lounge Chair was created, which with the combination of plywood shells and leather upholstery completely new paths in terms of Appearance and comfort are possible Maintaining your posture even when sitting relaxed – this is made possible by the Eames Lounge Chair .
At the time the Eames Lounge Chair was created, the trend was towards organic and homely shapes and colors - Charles & Ray Eames were also inspired by this. The spacious armchair conveys cosiness, which, coupled with timelessness and style, makes up the image of the Eames Lounge Chair as a design classic.
It is not for nothing that the Eames Lounge Chair has been part of the famous design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1960. The legendary lounge chair naturally has a place of honor in the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein.
Vitra's founding father, Willi Fehlbaum, discovered the Eames Lounge Chair in a shop window and was so enthusiastic that he immediately secured the license to manufacture and sell Charles Eames' original design.
