Dutch vintage furniture piece CB01, designed by Cees Braakman for Pastoe. This piece is an iconic example of progressive Dutch design from the 1950s, in which functionality, industrial production, and a clear design language come together.
Cees Braakman (1917–1995) was one of the most influential Dutch furniture designers of the 20th century. After a study trip to the United States, where he was inspired by the designs and production methods of Charles & Ray Eames, Braakman played a key role in the renewal of Dutch furniture design. His work is characterized by clean lines, rational constructions, and the use of modern materials and techniques. Braakman designed a large part of the Pastoe collection and contributed significantly to the brand's international reputation.
Pastoe was founded in 1913 in Utrecht and developed into a leading Dutch furniture manufacturer from the 1940s and 1950s onwards. The company was known for its progressive vision on serial production, quality, and timeless design. Under the leadership of Cees Braakman, Pastoe introduced modular and functional furniture intended for the modern way of living. Many designs from this period are part of the canon of Dutch modernism today.
This CB01 model is characterized by its clean lines, balanced proportions, and well-thought-out layout. The furniture is both practical and aesthetically strong, and suitable for various applications in living or working spaces. The austere design and understated appearance make the piece a versatile addition to both modern and vintage interiors.
The furniture is in good vintage condition, with signs of use appropriate for its age. There is a stain on the top, visible but in line with the character and history of the piece.
