Product description
This extraordinary vintage vase was made around 1950 by Fiorini Pugi in one of the smallest - and richest - countries in the world: Monaco. The design is very extravagant and stands out! The 'handled' vase has a thick layer of gray glaze. In France, this type of glaze is called 'écume de mer,' or sea foam. This textural finish is also known as 'fat lava' glaze. A term more commonly encountered with the famous West Germany vases. Like the front and back, the inside of this Fiorini Pugi vase features a bright red color. The decorations appear to be handmade, as does the mark "Pugi. One side of the vase depicts an ibex, while the other side is decorated with a minimalist branch with leaves in a blue color. On the bottom of the vase are the numbers 3724, probably to indicate the series. The vase has a wider belly and neck. Unlike most ceramic vases, this one is not round but oval. The opening at the top of the vase is somewhat pointed in shape, which adds to its unusual character. Monaco Ceramic? Monacan Ceramics? We too had to open the dictionary for a moment. The correct name: Monegasque Ceramics! And as far as that goes, one of the most beautiful styles if you ask us.
