An authentic Tecta D4 lounge chair from the late 1970s to early 1980s, based on the iconic Bauhaus design by Marcel Breuer. Internationally regarded as one of the purest expressions of modernism, the D4 embodies functional clarity, structural elegance, and timeless architectural presence.
This example stands out for its strong and complete authenticity markers. The chair retains its original navy Eisengarn canvas—a wax-impregnated cotton fabric developed within the Bauhaus for exceptional strength, durability, and a subtle satin sheen. The original Eisengarn label is present, and importantly, the reverse side is marked “Tecta”, indicating factory-original upholstery rather than later replacement. The chair also includes its original Bauhaus hangtag, further enhancing its desirability for collectors.
The frame is crafted from lacquered tubular steel in an elegant silver-grey finish, maintaining the clean geometric lines that define the D4. Visually lightweight yet structurally sound, this piece functions equally well as a sculptural statement or a practical lounge chair within a refined interior.
Condition
Overall in very good vintage condition with, age-appropriate signs of use.
The right-side canvas strap has been professionally reinforced in the past, as shown in the detailed photograph. This conservation work was carefully executed to preserve the original Eisengarn upholstery and does not affect the chair’s structural integrity, functionality, or overall aesthetic.
