Patricia Urquiola was born in Oviedo (Spain). She lives and works in Milan. She studied Architecture at the Politecnico of Madrid and the Politecnico of Milan, where she graduated in 1989 with Achille Castiglioni. In 2001, she opened her own studio and has since worked in the areas of product design, interior design and lְ'architecture. She has designed products for the most important Italian and international companies, including: Agape, Alessi, Axor-Hansgrohe, Baccarat, Flos, Gan, Georg Jensen, Glas Italia, Haworth, Kartell, Kvadrat, Listone Giordano, Louis Vuitton and Verywood. Some of her products are exhibited in the most important art and design museums, including MoMa in New York, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, the Design Museum in Zurich, the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Triennale Museum in Milan. She has won various international awards, including the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes from the Spanish Government: the Order of Isabel the Catholic, awarded by the King of Spain Juan Carlos I, "Designer of the Decade" for Home and Häuser magazines, "Designer of the Year" for Wallpaper, AD Spain, Elle Decor International and Architektur und Wohnen magazines.
