Unique vintage Staalmeubel cabinet – industrial heritage with history
This robust steel cabinet is an authentic product of Staalmeubel N.V., founded in 1932 in Amsterdam. The company moved to a modern factory in Velsen in 1950 and became part of Gispen in the early 1960s. With this, Staalmeubel grew into an important part of the Dutch furniture industry, known for its solid and functional designs.
This particular piece has a special history: the cabinet was used for health insurance giro cards. The cards were carefully stored and organized in these drawers. With those cards, health insurance messengers literally went door to door to collect premiums, a tangible reminder of a time when healthcare was organized very differently.
The cabinet was painted in its current green color by the previous owner and fitted with dozens of sturdy drawers, complete with the characteristic handles and label holders. Ideal for use as storage furniture, a filing cabinet, or a collector's item. Beyond its practical value, this piece of furniture is a piece of living heritage: industrial design that played a role in the daily lives of thousands of Dutch people. An eye-catcher for lovers of vintage, industrial living, or design history – practical, rare, and with a unique story.
