This striking mid-century standing floor lamp is an exceptional piece of Hungarian design history, created by the celebrated interior and lighting designer Tamás Borsfay for the Iparművészeti Vállalat (Hungarian Applied Arts Enterprise) in the early 1970s. Borsfay is highly regarded as one of the most prominent figures in Hungarian modernist design, famous for his architectural, space-age metalwork. This specific model features an eye-catching, original forest green finish on its distinctive shade and sturdy weighted base, beautifully contrasted by a sleek, slender chrome stem.
Equipped with Borsfay’s signature mechanical counterweight system, the lamp offers excellent versatility with its adjustable height mechanism. With its grand scale and minimalist industrial silhouette, it serves as a sophisticated statement piece, providing perfect directional task lighting or an ambient glow next to a mid-century lounge chair, executive desk, or minimalist loft sofa.
Condition & Character
The standing lamp is in original vintage condition, functioning flawlessly and offering immense retro character.
Structure & Function: The mechanical height adjustment system operates smoothly and stays firmly in position. The overall frame is stable and sturdy.
Bakelite Component: Please note that the black Bakelite adjustment piece is unfortunately broken. However, the lamp remains completely functional and easy to operate; please refer to the detailed images to inspect this specific area.
Surface Wear: The green enamel finish and chrome elements show minor, honest signs of use, including light surface scuffs and small scratches accumulated over decades of authentic vintage life.
Electrical System: The lamp is currently fitted with its original wiring and a European (EU) socket. If required, we can convert or change the plug to match your region's outlet standards before shipping at no additional cost.
