The white porcelain of this milk jug possesses the softness of beautiful, simple things. Its cylindrical body, gently flaring towards the base, is adorned with fine, regular vertical fluting that catches the light in a succession of pearlescent reflections. A gold band encircles the rim, highlighting the hand-pleated, flared pouring spout, and a second band runs along the foot, uniting the piece in a restrained and classic elegance. The round, well-proportioned handle offers a secure grip. The gilding shows marks of old use, a natural patina of an object that has graced real tables. The unmarked base is characteristic of European dinnerware from the first half of the 20th century. On a set table, for breakfast or tea, this milk jug naturally finds its place.
