Vintage Propos lounge armchair by Hulmefa, produced in the 1960s in Nieuwe Pekela, the Netherlands.
This rare Dutch lounge armchair is made of teak and upholstered in a fabric in white, brown and yellow tones. The chair stands out for its beautiful, sculptural design and is part of the progressive Propos series by the Nieuwe Pekela-based firm Hulmefa.
Originally, this is a so-called "ladies chair," which is reflected in the low backrest. At the time, ladies were expected to sit upright, so a high backrest was not considered appropriate.
The lounge armchair has been reupholstered, making it sit like new again. Thanks to its elegant, organic shape, this piece of furniture is a pleasure to look at and a real eye-catcher in any interior.
