Beautiful vintage armchair, probably produced by Swedish furniture maker Akerblom in the 1960s. I say probably because the frame is often attributed to Louis van Teeffelen, but the seat is a direct copy of another Akerblom model. Okay, so, riddle solved!
We picked up this armchair from the son of the original owner in Oldenzaal, and when we bought it, it looked a lot worse than it does now. The upholstery was bright orange corduroy, and the frame had a thick, crusty lacquer finish. So, yes, restoration was in order!
The teak frame was completely stripped and refinished, restoring its original, warm 1960s color. The whole thing looks very elegant, a typical Danish aesthetic you see here.
The seat is fully upholstered with new foam and a very stylish, slightly coarser ochre-yellow fabric. The color and texture are true to the original design and give it a very cool vintage look. Or well, it is vintage, of course!
The armchair is incredibly comfortable thanks to the new foam and the design. You'll want to read your newspaper on it, I can tell you! Long story short: it's a beautiful mid-century gem.
