Beautiful mid-century vintage orange-red XL Swedish Dala horse, designed in the 1960s by Nils Olsson. Rare large version. Height 21 cm, length 20 cm, width 6 cm.
Hand-carved and hand-painted. The Dala horse features the original brand sticker on the bottom.
The Dala horse is in very good vintage condition.
The symbol of Sweden and a popular collector's item. Colored red and painted with floral motifs.
A Dala horse is a traditional wooden figurine of a horse from the Swedish province of Dalarna.
In the past, the Dala horse was primarily a toy for children, but today it symbolizes Dalarna and Sweden in general.
The ancestors of the Dala horse came to life in small huts deep in the forest, during the long winter nights by the fireplace.
The woodcarvers made toys for their children using simple tools, usually just a knife. It is therefore not surprising that many of these toys symbolised horses, as the horse was a loyal friend and workhorse at the time, capable of transporting a great deal of wood from the forest in the winter, while being equally useful in the fields in the summer.
