This elegant Frisco coffee table was designed by Folke Ohlsson for the Swedish manufacturer Tingströms during the 1960s, is a refined example of Swedish MCM design. Crafted from high-quality teak, the piece is distinguished by its minimalist yet dynamic form, whose most distinctive feature is the slightly raised edges of the tabletop, giving it a unique, almost sculptural profile. The structure rests on slender, tapering legs, stabilized by crossbars, emphasizing the overall design's visual lightness. Combining functionality with the natural beauty of the teak grain, this table has become an icon, produced by renowned manufacturers such as Tingströms and Dux. It is one of a number of variants of this model, which came in various shapes and sizes. However, all were characterized by a raised edge. Unfortunately, the signature has not survived.
Folke Ohlsson was born and raised in Sweden. In 1953, he moved to the United States and founded Dux Incorporated, which was a huge success. The designs of Ohlsson's armchairs and sofas are appreciated for their graceful combination of traditional details and modernist simplicity. Accordingly, his work has brought many recognition and awards, including the best design at the 1964 Milan Triennale exhibition, as well as the Royal Order of the Vasa in Sweden, awarded by King Gustav VI Adolf.
Tingströms is a Swedish furniture manufacturer that gained international recognition in the 1950s and 1960s as one of the pillars of the Swedish Modern style. Tingströms's greatest fame came from its collaboration with the architect duo Sven Engström and Gunnar Myrstrand. Their designs are characterized by purity of form, functionality, and the use of noble materials, primarily teak and oak. Tingströms furniture often bears the distinctive Bra Bohag (literally meaning Good Home Furnishings) label. This was an elite association of Swedish manufacturers and designers dedicated to promoting high-quality design and facilitating customers' access to the finest everyday objects. Tingströms's offerings also included designs by other esteemed designers, such as Folke Ohlsson (Frisco series) and Alf Svensson.
The table is in original vintage condition. It has minor signs of age, circular impressions, and a natural patina.
