Product description
This industrial, swivel office chair was manufactured by the Swedish manufacturer Verkstads AB Lindqvist Motala during the 1960s. It features a simple, mid-century Scandinavian design. The combination of metal, classic upholstery, and wood in its raw shade creates a cohesive, craftsmanlike composition. Well-profiled wooden armrests break the coldness of the metal elements and lend a touch of warmth to the overall design.
The seat and backrest create a compact, streamlined silhouette. They are upholstered in a timeless, melange gray fabric. This shade perfectly complements the patina on the metal leg. The overall design impresses with its striking proportions, where the geometric minimalism of its office origins seamlessly blends with the simplicity of its form. The company gained widespread recognition in the mid-20th century, specializing in furniture and consumer goods that combined craftsmanship with modern engineering. Its designs, from iconic metal stools and ladders to ergonomically advanced swivel chairs, became an indispensable part of modern post-war offices, workshops, and architectural studios throughout Scandinavia.
The Lindqvist Motala brand became renowned for its uncompromising craftsmanship, prioritizing durable materials and technical functionality, such as smooth, screw-type height adjustment mechanisms. A brilliant balance between these two aesthetics became the company's visual hallmark. On the one hand, it drew on austere, metal minimalism with an industrial pedigree, while on the other, it was softened by warm elements of precious wood (primarily teak or oak) and soft upholstery. The armchair is in original vintage condition. It shows minor signs of age-related wear, minor abrasions to the metal, and a natural patina. The seat height is 46 cm.
