This vintage Mid-Century Modern chair is a striking example of Dutch Design from the mid-twentieth century. The design, often referred to as a 'Dress Boy' chair, is characterized by a minimalist and functional aesthetic typical of this period. The design is by Wim Rietveld, son of the famous Gerrit Rietveld.
The chair is constructed from a slender, black lacquered metal tubular frame that creates an airy and open structure. The seat and the distinctive, wide backrest are crafted from white lacquered wood, providing a strong graphic contrast with the dark frame. The design of the backrest is specifically intended for hanging garments, emphasizing its dual function as a seat and a clothes stand.
The piece is in good condition commensurate with its age and previous use, and has been repainted.
This design comes into its own perfectly in a bedroom or dressing room, where it fulfills both a practical and a sculptural role. It fits seamlessly into interiors with a penchant for Scandinavian or Mid-Century Modern design.
