Product description
This lounge chair was designed by Georg Thams for the Danish manufacturer A/S Vejen Polstermøbelfabrik during the 1960s. The chair features a deep, wide seat and a high, slightly reclined backrest, ensuring a comfortable, natural posture. The integrated headrest provides additional support for the neck and head. The substantial armrests are subtly extended and streamlined into the frame. The upholstery, made of high-quality black natural leather, adds elegance and practicality to the chair. The material ages beautifully, acquiring character and a natural patina over time. All stitching is executed with great precision, in accordance with Danish craftsmanship tradition. The base is a chrome-plated T-shaped, made of bent, polished steel. The legs, set wide apart, provide not only stability but also a visual lightness, giving the impression that the piece is gently "floating above the ground". The contrast between the monumental shape of the seat and the delicate line of the base gives the armchair a unique, balanced character. The armchair reflects the Mid-Century Modern style, with a distinct influence of Danish functionalism. Minimalist form is combined with ergonomics and a sense of proportion. This piece of furniture enhances the space rather than dominates it. It will look great in both modern, minimalist interiors and those decorated in a vintage or loft style.
Georg Thams is a leading Danish furniture maker. He specialized in angular designs mainly of sofas and armchairs. All his designs are characterized by sharp edges and clear shapes. They were produced by many Danish producers, e.g. Vejen Møbelfabrik and attract interest at many auctions to this day.
A/S Vejen Polstermøbelfabrik is one of Denmark's most important furniture manufacturers, operating during the heyday of Scandinavian design in the mid-20th century. The company became renowned for producing the highest quality lounge furniture, often collaborating with renowned designers such as Georg Thams. Its products were characterized by solid craftsmanship, carefully selected materials, and subtle design, perfectly in keeping with the mid-century modern aesthetic.
The armchair is in original vintage condition. It shows minor signs of age-related wear, scratches to the leather, and a natural patina. The seat height is 36 cm.
