The icon of Danish modernism, this rare set includes the elegant model 2207 armchair and footstool. The armchair was designed by Børge Mogensen for the Danish manufacturer Fredericia. It is one of the designer's most distinctive designs from his mature creative period. It exemplifies modernism, in which functionality, refined materials, and timeless form prevail over passing trends.
The 2207 model was designed during the early 1960s as part of the 22 Collection: a series of Mogensen upholstered sofas and armchairs. The design is based on a very conscious contrast: a distinctive, almost architectural exterior is juxtaposed with a soft, comfortable interior. This balance between structural discipline and comfort is one of the most recognizable elements of Mogensen's design language.
The distinctive silhouette of the 2207 armchair combines simple, strongly defined sides with soft, feather-filled seat and back cushions. Børge Mogensen lived from 1914 to 1972. He was one of the pioneers who laid the foundations of Danish design as a furniture design culture. His ambition in life was to create durable and useful furniture that would enrich everyday life. Mogensen's ideal was to create furniture with restrained aesthetics. He believed that furniture should create a sense of calm and have a modest appearance that encourages people to live unpretentiously. In 1950, Mogensen opened a private design office, and shortly thereafter, in 1952, he began working with a young interior designer and entrepreneur Andreas Graversen, who later became the owner of Fredericia Furniture. Mogensen received the Eckersberg Medal in 1950 as well as C.F. The Hansen Medal, in 1972. In 1971, together with Andreas Graversen, they received the Danish Furniture Award for their contribution to the Danish furniture industry, in 1972 Mogensen was appointed Honorary Royal Designer. Examples of Mogensen's designs can be seen in leading design museums around the world.
The Fredericia company was founded in 1911 as Fredericia Stolefabrik by entrepreneur NP Ravnsø, who successfully ran the venture until his death in 1936. Right from the start, Ravnsø wanted his company to be known for its extremely high quality and employed only the most skilled craftsmen during his tenure. This made Fredericia Stolefabrik known for high-quality furniture in a variety of styles. Fredericia's first luxury collection was based on the methodologies fashionable in Denmark in the 1920s, namely antique furniture in Central European and English styles. Fredericia received the exclusive rights to produce and distribute the chair collection under the German brand Thonet in Scandinavia. Under the leadership of Børge Mogensen, Danish Coop FDB initiated a furniture program aimed at renewing the Danish furniture culture and creating modern, functional and useful furniture.
The 2207 model has been published in Fredericia catalogs, including the Fredericia Collection 2018-2019, Collection 2021, and Collection Book 2023.

The set is in original vintage condition. It shows signs of age, including minor abrasions, cracks, and discoloration in the leather. Due to its historical value and museum-quality nature, the piece has not been restored. The leather has been professionally preserved.
