Magazine rack/newspaper rack designed by Carl Auböck II, made in Austria in the 1950s.
This iconic two-tier magazine rack is characteristic of Auböck's modernist design style from that period. The piece is characterized by:
∙ The tubular copper or brass frame
∙ The cognac/tan leather compartments (often referred to as saddle leather)
∙ The elegant, functional, and minimalist design
∙ The typical Viennese modernist aesthetic
Carl Auböck II (1900-1957) was an important Austrian designer known for his functional yet elegant household objects, often combining brass, copper, and leather.
The leather is in very good condition; the seams around the handles are also still perfectly stitched. Some oxidation on the frame. There is a small stain on the inside of one of the compartments.
