Product description
Beautiful vintage wardrobe, designed by Louis van Teeffelen and produced by the Wébé furniture factory in the 1960s. In the original brochure, this model is listed as "Kastrup" and is part of a larger series that includes matching tables, chairs, and beds.
We collected this wardrobe from the estate of the original owner in Sittard. The son told us that the wardrobe had always been in the same place, in the same room, since the 1960s. That certainly makes you think about consumer society and the general quality of contemporary furniture.
Anyway, upon arrival at our workshop, the wardrobe was already in near-perfect condition, so we simply refreshed it. All the teak was thoroughly cleaned and given a fresh coat of oil. The wood has regained a deep, warm hue, and the grain is beautifully accentuated. And that's worth seeing—wow! You can clearly see that no expense was spared on the quality of the wood back then.
A lovely (and distinctive) feature of this cabinet is the large two-tone sliding doors: one made of wood and one of cream-colored plastic. The original brochure calls this "pastel-colored polyester." Behind these smooth-running doors, you'll find ample storage space: four compartments on the left and a hanging area with a shelf above on the right. More than enough space for most, though there are always exceptions, of course.
The cabinet is clearly designed according to the Danish aesthetic for which Van Teeffelen is known. Even in this design, you can see that he has meticulously crafted everything, see for example the brass details on the base. A truly charming cabinet with a wealth of character and a cherished past. A mid-century gem!
