This set of six Mamezara (literally "bean plates," a term referring to a small format here measuring 8 cm in diameter and 2 cm in height) is made of speckled stoneware. They feature a hand-painted Ume (plum) design, a Japanese symbol of perseverance and renewal.
Each piece bears the "crown" signature on the reverse, emblematic of high-quality Japanese production intended for export (1960-1980 period). These handcrafted pieces are ideally suited for serving soy sauce (sushi), presenting condiments, or as tea bag rests. Very good condition.
