Product description
Exceptional Swiss design armchair with matching ottoman by Heinrich Pfalzberger, executed in chromed tubular steel and light leather. The design combines the clear constructive language of classic tubular steel furniture with a remarkably comfortable, relaxed seating position.
The frame consists of continuously bent, chromed tubular steel. The generous runners simultaneously form the base, side parts, and armrests, giving the armchair its light, almost floating appearance. The seat and backrest are designed as flexible upholstery and covered with light leather.
The high backrest can be adjusted in its inclination, allowing for a relaxed lounge or resting position. A generous cylindrical neck roll complements the ergonomic construction. The accompanying ottoman adopts the same design language with a chromed cantilever frame and a slightly sagging leather upholstery. A comparable Pfalzberger model is also explicitly described in Swiss trade as a high-back armchair with an ottoman made of genuine leather.
Particularly beautiful is the consistent reduction of the design: the load-bearing tubular steel remains fully visible, while the soft leather upholstery forms an exciting contrast to the shiny chrome. The construction is reminiscent of the Bauhaus tradition and classical modernism, yet possesses a distinct Swiss character.
Condition:
Authentic vintage condition with clear signs of wear due to age and use. The light leather shows patina, discolorations, wrinkles, abrasion, and in some places, heavier wear. On the ottoman, a clearly worn or damaged area in the leather is visible, especially in the middle. Signs of wear are also present on the edges and folds. The chromed tubular steel shows age-typical scratches and surface marks, but overall still presents beautifully shiny. The existing patina was deliberately not concealed and is part of the vintage character of the ensemble.
