This old wooden box is made in the 'Hindeloopen' painting style. Hindeloopen is a small village in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. The village is known for its floral painting style in atmospheric oxblood red and dark blue-green hues. Although the painting style is inextricably linked to the village, objects in this style have been created by various artists at different times. Even today, this art form is still practiced in the Netherlands. This box appears to be vintage, at least, given the worn paint on the edges. On the inside, the box is painted with a marble-like pattern, something I have never encountered before on another artwork from Hindeloopen.
