This is a vintage French school desk for a teacher or supervisor (bureau de maïtre, bureau d'instituteur). It exudes the typical post-war style of the 1950s and is reminiscent of the designs of Jean Prouvé, Jacques Hitler, Marcel Gascoin, Robert Charroyu, and others. The construction is rock-solid and robust, with a solid oak veneer body resting on a sturdy metal frame. The piece is well-preserved and still very attractive for its respectable age, with clear signs of wear but no real damage. On one side, a small door provides access to a storage compartment. On the other side, three drawers with attractive, solid handles. These should be lockable, but unfortunately, the key is missing. The piece is completely authentic... no restorations, no embellishments, but completely "au naturel."
