Originally from Joure, Friesland, it has always been in the same family.
My grandfather was a manager at the Zijlstra furniture factory in Joure from the 1950s to the early 1960s and was closely involved in the technical design and production. There is no stamp, but the style, construction, and origin strongly resemble Zijlstra from this period. Model Z series.
The additional features include blind mortise and tenon joints, continuous rear legs, and tapered back posts. Sturdy, comfortable, and with a beautiful patina.
The metal mounting clamps on the underside are square or L-shaped metal brackets that connect the seat to the wooden frame. Zijlstra used this method to securely fasten the seat while still allowing the wood to "work" minimally due to temperature fluctuations, preventing the structure from creaking.
Price: estimated price; please contact an enthusiast.
A stylish addition to any interior. Condition: used, but in very good condition. The woodwork is good but could use some minor refurbishment. There's a small hole in the faux leather in one of the seats.
