Beautiful early 20th Century English wooden chest with iron fittings with highly decorative sporting contents.
Dimensions of chest; 45.5 x 36 x 12cm
Mainly vintage contents (23pcs):
- 1 old white clay stone billiard ball - nicely worn, 1 small piece out. Diam ca 6,3cm weight 265gr
- 3 old yellow billiard balls mid 20th e
- 1 golden yellow billiard ball small mid 20th century
- 1 very small wooden ball (light colored wood with reddish grain) with remains of yellow paint mid 20th e diam ca 4cm
- 1 old duck green squash ball with yellow dot
- 1 vintage golf practice ball Abbey England Airstream patented
- 4 old tennis balls of which 2 Royal Court, 1 Top Pro and 1 Mator
- 1 old table tennis net hand knotted in very good vintage condition with no holes.
- 10 extremely rare petanque balls (2 sets of 4 large and 1 small ball). These are late 19th century Italian petanque balls in hard and heavy wood. A beautiful patina and signs of use appropriate to the period and material.
Total weight about 8 kg. Diameter of the balls about 10 cm and of the small balls 8 cm. They have been cleaned and polished with a cloth soaked in red oil. By banging the bowls together they produce a full crackling sound.
An extremely charming and decorative lot. Box can be closed with iron hook (but this admittedly without the petanque balls as they are too high).
Given the nature and age of the items, they obviously show signs of use. I have tried to represent them as well as possible in the various photos.
