Product description
Charming vintage shopping basket from Czechoslovakia, dating from the mid-20th century. A wonderful example of utilitarian everyday design, combining simple construction with a surprisingly strong decorative character. The basket is made from green-painted metal wire, formed into an open grid structure with gently shaped sides. Two folding handles with contrasting yellow grips add a distinctive graphic detail and give the piece its unmistakable period appearance. Originally designed as a practical shopping or market basket, today it works beautifully as a decorative storage basket, magazine holder, kitchen accessory or display piece. Its combination of green and yellow, together with the exposed wire construction, gives it an appealing industrial and Modernist character. The basket remains in original vintage condition, with visible wear, losses to the painted finish, oxidation and signs of use throughout. These traces of age have been left untouched and contribute to the authentic character and patina of the piece. A lovely piece of Czechoslovakian everyday design, increasingly difficult to find and particularly attractive as a functional decorative object.
