Product description
Beautiful vintage Cross Century mechanical pencil, crafted in 14-karat gold and in good condition. The pencil features a subtly engraved Nationale Nederlanden logo.
The pen was produced in Ireland, likely in the 1980s or 1990s (the Irish production facility opened in 1972 and closed in 2000).
The original box with warranty certificate is present, although this was originally intended for a pen set (fountain pen and pencil) and the fountain pen is unfortunately missing.
The mechanical pencil is marked on the top with:

1/20 14KT Rolled Gold
This is neither solid gold nor thin plating, but gold filled: a layer of 14-karat gold that is mechanically rolled onto a base metal, with a weight ratio of 1/20th (5%) gold to the total weight. Much more durable than plating, and it hardly wears off, which explains why it still looks like new after decades.
The ballpoint pen and mechanical pencil set is still being sold, for a price of €350 - €400 for the pen & pencil together.
