Vintage bronze balance figurine from Benin, from the mid-20th century. Beautiful and decorative figurine from Benin of the Fon tribe, such objects were used as oracles. It is made of bronze of which the mother holds a child in her arms and in her right hand she holds something that could be interpreted as an "asen" (family altar). A figure balances beautifully on a game-like base. The figure is balanced by two counterweights on each side of the figure, which can then be rotated around; even at high speed, the figure does not fall off. The female figure wears earrings of red glass beads.
