On a dressing table, it was meant to hold the small treasures one removed at night before going to bed. A ring nestled between two satin cushions, a pair of earrings, a brooch chosen for the next day. Around it, one can readily imagine a perfume bottle, a hairbrush, and those few personal items that once made the dressing table an almost secret territory. This 1950s-1960s jewelry box retains something of that intimate elegance. Completely clad in mirrors, it plays with the light with every movement. Its polygonal shape gives it a very graphic architecture, a legacy of Art Deco taste, while its thick, carefully beveled panels multiply reflections on all its surfaces. The lid is particularly captivating. A succession of cut facets runs along its edge like a small crystal frieze, framing a delicate floral branch engraved in the mirror. When light hits it, the bevels catch the colors and reveal tiny iridescent glints. The edges of the glass also reveal that slight green tint so characteristic of antique mirrors. Upon lifting the lid, the interior becomes softer. The interior is still clad in its ivory satin, with small rollers in the center designed to hold rings. A charming arrangement that reminds us this box was not merely decorative but intended to accompany the familiar gestures of an era when everyday objects were readily afforded an extra touch of elegance. Measuring approximately 13 x 10 cm and 5 cm high, it is today just the right size for a few chosen jewels. On a dressing table, of course, but also on a console table, a bedside table, or among antique bottles, it becomes a small point of light on its own. A few discreet signs of use and micro-scratches attest to its age and are visible in the photographs, without detracting from its beautiful presence.
