Original art deco fireplace vase from Belgium, made in molded faience and glazed in white and blue. The front shows a hand-painted scene of a house by the water, framed with leaf motifs. The reverse is left blank, as is common for fireplace ornaments of this period.
The vase bears the model number "250" printed in the bottom, a typical feature of the Belgian faience industry around 1935-1940, presumably from the region of Wasmuël.
Dimensions ca. 25 × 8 × 6 cm. Hollow inside, heavy and stable, with fine age cracks in the glaze and a small chip on the top rim (see last photo), appropriate to the age of the piece. No restorations.
A characterful set piece and an authentic piece of interwar history. Ideal for lovers of Art Deco, Belgian ceramics or as a unique eye-catcher on the mantel.
Probably from Auguste Mouzin & Cie (AMC for short),
also known as the Faïencerie de Wasmuël,
operating in Wasmuël (near Jemappes, Belgium),
in operation from c. 1878 to 1951.
