Authentic Batak medicine container from North Sumatra, Indonesia. This cylindrical bamboo container was traditionally used by a datu (shaman) to store medicinal and ritual preparations. The container is crowned with a hand-carved wooden figure and features symbolic inscriptions, typical of Batak ritual objects.
Dating: mid-20th century. Beautiful, honest patina and wear consistent with age and function. No restorations have been performed.
