An iconic piece of Italian design from the revolutionary 1970s: this Bamboletto daybed, designed by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia in 1975, is part of the legendary Le Bambole series — a collection that redefined seating through its soft, sculptural forms and exceptional comfort.
The Bamboletto is characterized by its low, inviting silhouette and distinctive tufted surface, creating a rich, voluminous appearance. The design appears to consist entirely of cushions, representing a radical departure from traditional visible-frame furniture of the time. Its generous proportions and relaxed form make it both highly comfortable and visually striking.
This example retains its original floral upholstery, enhancing its authentic 1970s aesthetic and giving the piece a warm, expressive character. The combination of original materials and iconic form makes this daybed both a functional seating element and a sculptural statement piece.
About the Designer — Mario Bellini
Mario Bellini (born 1935, Italy) is widely regarded as one of the most influential Italian designers and architects of the 20th century. After graduating from the Politecnico di Milano, he collaborated with leading Italian manufacturers including B&B Italia, Cassina, and Artemide.
Introduced in 1972, the Le Bambole series marked a breakthrough in furniture design. Through an innovative construction method — concealing the internal structure within generous polyurethane padding — Bellini created a new type of seating that combined softness, flexibility, and structural integrity. In 1979, the series was awarded the prestigious Compasso d’Oro, one of the highest honors in industrial design.
Today, Bellini’s work is included in the permanent collections of major museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.

The structure remains in very good vintage condition.
