Beautiful vintage Oyster F157 armchair, designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort. The Oyster is one of Pierre Paulin's most famous designs and was put into production by Artifort around 1960. This is an older/vintage example that has been in family ownership for over 50 years. The armchair features the characteristic metal four-legged base of the early Oyster and measures approximately 87 cm wide and 86 cm high. About three years ago, the armchair was reupholstered in a beautiful dark blue fabric. As a result, the upholstery is in very neat condition. The metal base has not been restored and displays the usual patina and signs of wear consistent with the age of the armchair. There is no longer an Artifort label present on the underside. Given the age, provenance, finish, dimensions, and construction, it is in all likelihood an original vintage Artifort F157. Due to the missing label, this is explicitly stated. A special and iconic Dutch design object that comes into its own beautifully both as an armchair and as a collector's item.
