Antique Art Deco 'Double Frame' Clutch / Handbag – Pressed Leather (c. 1920/1930)
Description:
A unique object for the collector of haute brocante and historical fashion accessories. This characterful handbag (pochette/clutch) dates from the heyday of Art Deco (1920s–1930s) and excels in artisanal craftsmanship.
Features & Design:
Material:
Authentic, robust natural leather with a deep, coarse grain structure. It is presumably beautifully pressed calfskin, which was very fashionable at the time to imitate an exotic texture. The edges display a beautiful, weathered brownish patina.
Frame & Closure: A very ingenious, silver-colored double metal clasp ('double frame'). The integrated inner bag (snap) opens together with the main compartment, creating a beautiful three-dimensional accordion structure.
Wheeling style: Equipped with the original, wide leather wrist strap on the back to carry the bag elegantly as a clutch.
Extra: Comes with a more modern document/card holder in exactly the same leather-look style, which slides perfectly into the divider as an organizer.
Condition: Given its age of nearly 100 years, the bag is in beautiful, authentic condition with a wonderful historical character. The double clasp mechanism still works perfectly. The original fabric lining shows wear and age-related holes, consistent with an object of this age.
Dimensions:
Length: 24 cm
Height/Width: 18 cm
Bottom width: 8 cm
