Saul Mamakeesick was born in 1957 on the Sandy Lake Indian Reservation in northern Ontario. Mamakeesicka's art shows the influence of the Woodland School of Native Art. He describes nature in poems and paints it, believing that it gives him the strength to create and fills the human soul with joy.
