Description:
A beautiful glass display case or bookcase by the designer Peter Ghyczy. This cabinet has a very unique system which was invented by the designer himself in the 1970s. The glass floors can be easily moved to different heights by unscrewing the gold clamps and tightening them again at the desired height. The clamps are attached to a stainless steel frame that flows smoothly in the corners. These clamps are also equally the designer's signature. These are cast in sand and contain Ghyczy's logo. You will encounter this logo in a similar way on many of his furniture pieces. The glass plates are very thick and rounded on the edge.
About the Designer:
Born in Budapest in 1940. After political unrest moved to Vienna in 1956 and then to Bonn, Germany. Studied sculpture in Düsseldorf and then constructional engineering in Aachen. During his studies he worked as an intern for the German architect Rudolf Steinbach. After his studies, he worked for many furniture designers and factories in Germany, such as Vitra. His most famous work is the Garden Egg Chair (1968) for Reuter. Around 1970 he moved to Swalmen (Netherlands) and started his own design studio there. Around this time he also designed the patented clamps as used in this cabinet. In short, a very unique piece of furniture with its own history.

Almost perfect condition. The glass has some scratches in a few spots, adding up to about 5 spots. (See last photos)
