Product description
Tourist artifacts are sometimes looked down upon a bit, but often the vintage or antique ones are of a very nice, artisanal quality; like these "butterfly" trays from Brazil. This one is a souvenir from Rio de Janeiro, hand-painted (on the back of the glass) and inlaid with butterfly wings. In perfect condition, considering its age. Inlaid wood and fresh colors! Very decorative.
With an origin label on the back: Florida Bazar, Daniel Teixeira, Loja-Rio. Industria Brasileira. Dating between 1940 and 1955. Fits the exoticism, tropical style of the time (think bamboo bars, for example). The reflection on the butterfly wings is almost luminous! Deliciously eccentric.
Often these trays have been used, and the glass is scratched, the butterfly wings damaged, or the wooden inlay broken. This one is in near perfect condition for its age (see photos!). Large size, 63 x 34.5 cm.
